| Although the Chinese delegation has not chosen this topic, we agreed that it is a very important one, please someone that is doing this topic, comment on it. We would like to hear your ideas of a way we would be able to solve the world hunger problem, China of all, with the size of its population, could help with this issue.
Thanks Guys. | |

| Delegate of Senegal,
The delegation of China tried to show its concern and will of helping to solve this huge problem that is world hunger. The Chinese delegation believes that the delegation of Senegal fails to understand therefore, the magnitude of this problem. For instance, Senegal, which is one of the most stable democracies in Africa, a continent where hunger is thrust upon every single nation, has a very successful program to fight hunger. Hence, the delegate should put forth how The Hunger Project-Senegal has been successful in the nation being able to give appropriate training to the 78% of the population who is employed in the field of agriculture, increase food security, promote education, and provide nutritional supplements for children. So, instead of unnecessary and pathetic comments and posts regarding this issue, the delegation of Senegal should be using this forum to provide interesting insights and plausible solutions to this problem. Cannibalism would not be it, would it delegate? | |

| The delegation of Senegal agrees and apologizes for the "unnecessary and pathetic comment". The delegate was merely confused as to how a huge population density could be of help in this subject, and although the phrasing of the question may have given it an "unnecessary and pathetic" connotation, the delegate simply tried to employ a certain humor, and is saddened to learn that the delegation of China was insulted by it. Senegal is, of course, very much aware of the importance of the world hunger issue. As mentioned by the Chinese delegation, the Hunger Project in Senegal has successfully brought awareness to a large percentage of the population in their mission to promote knowledge so that the people can provide their own needs. Additionally the Hunger Project organization has also initiated positive outcomes elsewhere in Africa and the world. Thereupon, the delegation of Senegal would live to express its belief that the issue of world hunger isn't merely about a lack of food or resources: it is a matter of lack of knowledge about how to obtain and handle the scarce resources available. This hypothesis is based on two observations; firstly, the aforementioned success that organizations such as the Hunger Project and other have demonstrated worldwide by methods that don't involve merely a distribution of food donations, focusing instead on providing an educational programme designed to instruct the population of suffering countries; and secondly, the correlation that exists between impoverished and hunger-struck nations and their respective literacy rates and levels of education. Like the Chinese proverb says, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." The solution to the issue of world hunger therefore lies on a global educational project similar to those directed by organizations like the Hunger Project, but with the entire international community's help and support. With enough help by means of resources from a greater number of developed countries, such a project could be spread out to the whole world. If the Hunger Project has been able to accomplish so much internationally with a staff of just over 300 people and donations from under 10 nations, imagine what the combined efforts of the entire economic and social council could accomplish. Considering China is not one of the countries supporting the Hunger Project, would the delegation of China not agree to the mission described above? | |

| Hello all, Have the delegates (especially the chinese delegate) looked into the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Summit in Rome held in November? Many interesting points were made during this three day summit, including where the Vice Premier Hui Liangyu of China made many new contributions towards the eradication of world hunger. Funneling Hui's speech, China is basically endorsing the investment in agriculture and the build-up of capability to endure natural disasters in order to establish more self-sufficiency, where developing countries would be provided with financial, technological, market and capacity-building assistance from developed countries and international organizations. Hui also proposes the re-launch of the Doha Round negotiations and the end of agricultural subsidies, removal of trade barriers and greater market access to developing countries.... Sorry for the "intrusion" but I'm sure this can be somewhat of an aid to anyone in this committee... zai jian(goodbye)! | |
