International Terrorism, Narco-Traffic, and Civil Unrest in Afghanistan Empty
PostSubject: International Terrorism, Narco-Traffic, and Civil Unrest in Afghanistan   International Terrorism, Narco-Traffic, and Civil Unrest in Afghanistan EmptyFri Mar 12, 2010 7:23 pm

Turkey Will be focusing on the Civil Unrest in Afghanistan and Narco-Traffic.

Narco-Traffic has been very 'popular' in the Afghanistan and Pakistan border.

-- There is mainly growth of Opium, Heroin and Poppy. More recently Hashish has been more used.
-- One third of the WORLDS illicit drugs come from Afghanistan.
-- The unemployment rate of Afghanistan is at 40% (almost half! Exclamation ) and of this number 3,000,000 are unskilled with an Increase of 300,000 per annum.
-- The other 60% are employed, but most live at approx. 2 Dollars per DAY!
-- One third of the GDP comes from illicit drugs.

These facts should be scary to ALL nations who have any kind of Drug Problem. Because of the low incomes and the unemployment any kind of work even on illicit drugs is inviting. The country is so dependent on the Drug sales that there are very few viable alternatives to bring the country out of a 'poverty hole'.

Possible Alternatives:
- Legalize Marijuana and Opium Growth [less likely, many nations opposed]
- Transform existing plantation's to legal Poppy sales and produce legal Morphine and Codeine. [Easier, requires little assistance]
- Bring in mass employing jobs like constructions of Massive scale train tracks, oil pipelines, roads, tunnels, factories, etc. [complicated, need lots of international support]

Civil Unrest:

The Taliban has had much support in the area because it does not only employ the local at a young age and able to adapt them to the taliban ideology but they also have little opposition from any nation because of the complex system of Valleys and Mountains in the area.

The largest issue with any kind of offensive in the area, is that the Taliban ideology at the moment employs a Anti-Western attitude and any offensive could anger and drive strong political emotions against the Western Nations. As known by many any kind of Emotion mixed into a Political activist is impossibly hard to Defeat and to take Down.

That is why it is necessary to write a resolution cautiously that will focus on improving the above figures for ALL afghanistan citizen.

Remember, let us not fall in the same mistake as the United States did in the Vietnam War. Where they spent enough money to give each Vietnamese Family at the time $50 which was alot more then the monthly income of the same family. They instead spent it on Bombs, offensive weapons and chemical bombs. This simply led to the Anti-Western attitude in the Region, the Communist State of Vietnam and the Success of Ho Chi Minh.
