Topic: Human Rights Violations Occurring in the Gaza Strip
The third topic concerning the Human Rights Council of the General Assembly is entitled as Human Rights Violations occurring in the Gaza Strip. Its primary issue revolves around the improper conducts of possession of land by Israelis and Palestinians which are visible in this remote area. These inhuman methods include terrorism, the use of illegal substances, the killing of innocent people, including many children, and shortages of food, which are indeed violations of the human rights. Objectives consist of earning back Gaza where both ethnic groups claim to own due to their ancestors history. Although the territory belonged to Palestine beforehand, after the Holocaust, Israel with the aid support of the United States of America took control of the area with the purpose of establishing an independent Jewish state.
The first measure taken by Brazil (Federative Republic of) is the full support towards the Goldstone report which has investigated and condemns potential violations of international humanitarian and human rights law on both sides of the Gaza conflict and pleads full support of the international community towards this cause. Brazil believes in the need to seek justice and truth, while working towards the reconciliation among Israelis and Palestinians. Brazil fully recognizes the right of Israel to defend its people and territory against all kinds of aggression, however it is bound by international law as is those in control of Gaza who must be held accountable for violations as well. Abiding with relevant United Nations resolutions, the Madrid terms of reference, including the principle of land for peace, the Arab Peace Initiative, the Quartet Roadmap for Peace and the Annapolis process, Brazil restates and emphasizes its strong and consistent support for the need to seek justice, truth, and peace in this tough zone of conflict.
Considering all the facts mentioned above, Brazil is aware of the serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights law reported in Gaza, therefore suggests that the Israeli Government and the authorities in Gaza establish credible investigations of these violations. Thus, to ensure accountability for these infringements, Brazil believes that international monitoring of the area is needed. Brazil understands the urgency to put an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the violations of human rights laws it has brought about. Forward, Brazil proposes as the only lasting solution, a halt to the occupation of Palestinian Territories and the creation of an independent, united, and democratic Palestinian State with borders recognized internationally and living peacefully and securely under truth and justice side by side with its neighbor, Israel.
